Should I wax my luxury vinyl flooring?

You love the shine on your luxury vinyl flooring and wonder if it ever needs re-application. No–and in fact, it might dull the floors.

What gives it the shine?

At the very top of luxury vinyl flooring is a clear urethane finish. That coating gives both extra shine and strength.

Any waxy product, including shine-promoting cleaners, might damage that finish. When that happens, the floors become dull–not exactly the result you sought!

What do I do if I think I need more shine?

Start by making sure the floor is properly cleaned. Sweep or vacuum to remove any dirt or dust from the vinyl plank flooring. After sweeping or vacuuming, wash the floor using a mop and a cleaning solution. You can use a product specifically designed for luxury vinyl floors. 

Allow the floor to dry completely. This can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the room's temperature and humidity.

Once the floor is dry, you can use a product specifically designed to add shine to luxury vinyl flooring. Follow the manufacturer's instructions, which typically involve applying the product with a clean, dry mop and allowing it to dry.
